Sell! Sell! LPS students win big at stock market challenge

High school students from Lincoln Public Schools joined others from across the city and the state at the annual Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge Nov. 19 at the University of Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center.

All six LPS high schools and The Career Academy were represented at the event, which pits teams of four against each other to see who can post the highest return on investment from a common starting amount of $1 million. A ballroom at the conference center was set up much like an actual trading floor, with a large screen at the front of the room that flashed information about the different stocks the teams could buy and sell, the fluctuations in their values and the constantly shifting team standings.

The competition was divided into morning and afternoon sessions.

A team from Lincoln East High School, coached by teacher Matt Maw, took first place in the afternoon. Team members were Pranav Rajan, Minjae Song, Caleb Gintig and Jarrett Linscott.

A team from Lincoln North Star, coached by teacher Shannon Quible, finished second in the afternoon. Team members were Ahmed Darfur, Owen Jensen, Tan Phan and Jason Phan.
