Penrod named new Southeast High School principal

Lincoln Public Schools announced Tuesday that Tanner Penrod will be the next principal at Southeast High School. Penrod will follow Brent Toalson, who is retiring at the end of August.

Penrod has served as the principal at the Bryan Community Focus Program since 2016. Prior to his role at Bryan, he was an associate principal at Lincoln High School, instructional coordinator at Bryan, and a coordinator for the Summer School Program at North Star High School. Penrod taught social studies at Southwest High School from 2005 to 2012, along with coaching swimming and soccer. From 2000 to 2004, he was a substitute paraeducator for LPS, and a substitute teacher from 2004 to 2005.

Penrod is pursuing his Educational Specialist certification from Doane, and obtained his Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Doane, and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“Tanner’s energy and passion will be a great fit for Southeast High School,” said Matt Larson, associate superintendent for instruction. “He will build upon the legacy already established and continue the pursuit of excellence for all students.”

Eric Weber, associate superintendent for Human Resources added, “Tanner brings a wealth of knowledge and experience within LPS as well as excitement to lead in a new setting. This will be a great opportunity for continued growth at Southeast.”

LPS will immediately start the process of replacing Penrod at Bryan Community Focus Program.
