Elliott staff surprise longtime custodian

Dan Davis has a laugh that fills the hallways of Elliott Elementary School. As a custodian, one thing he does not find very funny is glitter, which is notorious for being hard to clean up.

But on Friday afternoon even he had to laugh. The entire staff surprised him after school and honored him for his 20th anniversary at Elliott. Everyone presented him with cards that featured pictures of his favorite musical performer, Janet Jackson, and her song lyrics. 

They also used a lot of glitter, but he didn’t mind.

“It’s been a fun 20 years,” he said, clearly smiling behind his face covering. “Thanks for all the love.”

Elliott Principal Kathleen Dering said Davis is the kind of person who can bring a smile to anyone’s face.

“He will go out of his way to help a staff member when they have a need,” she said. “Dan’s positivity and love for what he does is a bright spot in our Elliott community and we are very thankful for him.”
