Joel to speak on leadership as part of UNK lecture series

Lincoln Public Schools Superintendent Steve Joel will be one of the featured speakers as part of the Warner Lecture Series at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Wednesday.

Joel will join Grand Island Public Schools Superintendent Tawana Grover for “Leading In the Skin You’re In” in the Hornady-Marshall Theater at UNK. The event begins at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The forum also will be livestreamed on Zoom using the meeting ID 942 9495 7084.

Joel has been a public school superintendent for nearly 30 years. He held the position for eight years at Beatrice Public Schools and 10 years at Grand Island Public Schools before joining LPS in 2010. During his time at LPS, the school district has grown to nearly 42,000 students and 8,000 staff members. Under Joel’s leadership, LPS has adopted two strategic plans centered on transforming teaching and learning to reflect 21st century education and passed two significant bond issues to address a growing population.

Hosted by the UNK College of Arts and Sciences, the Warner Lecture Series was launched in 2017 to address important issues in Nebraska and recognize the service of Charles J. Warner and his son Jerome Warner, two prominent former state senators who played a significant role in the university’s history.
