Moore Middle School team wins state science bowl

Multiple teams from Lincoln Public Schools competed in state-level science bowls recently, with a team from Moore Middle School placing first.

The annual science bowl competition is organized and typically hosted by Wayne State College. This year’s competitions were held virtually via Zoom on Feb. 6 for middle schools and Feb. 13 for high schools.

With the win, Moore advances to the national competition, which will be held virtually in late April.

Members of the winning Moore team are Aidan Murphy, Anish Koduri, Mathhew Killham, Jay Peng and Nick Li. Science teacher Luke Luxford is the coach.

“I am so proud of these students,” Luxford said. “They worked so hard and spent a lot of time studying for competition.”

For this year’s science bowl, students were required to use two cameras during the competition - one to view their face for question recognition and another to show their work space.

In addition to Moore, teams from Lux and Goodrich middle schools and Lincoln East High School competed. A team from East placed second. Members of the East team were Andrzej Korlacki, Josh Lee, Kai Waddell, Ian Meyer and Daniel Kumm.
