Every week, we’ll shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! Get to know the wonderful people making a positive impact across various areas within LPS. This week, meet Tina Crosley-Witt, assistant principal at Adams Elementary School.

“Tina is a true educational professional with students' best interests in mind when making decisions. Tina has many strengths, but one that sticks out is her ability to get a team of adults all working together for equitable outcomes for ALL students. Tina is one that doesn't seek out the spotlight, but deserves to be recognized for her hard work and dedication.” - Jeff Rust, Adams Elementary School principal.

How long have you worked for LPS?
I am in my 28th year working for LPS.

What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
Making a difference in the area of diversity and equity. My very first experiences in teaching were at Elliott Elementary School. I was inspired by the principal at the time (DeAnn Currin), the staff, the students and the families who represented the Elliott community. After that experience, I knew that someday I would teach at Elliott Elementary School and be a part of Lincoln Public Schools.

What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
My favorite part of working for Lincoln Public Schools is the support given to me as a young teacher, a veteran teacher and now as an administrator. The relationships I have with students, families and colleagues are the most rewarding part of being an educator.

Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I did not attend LPS as a student. I grew up in Niobrara, Neb., a small town in the northeast part of the state.

What path did you take after completing your formal education?

My career started with an associate’s degree in business from Southeast Community College. I then attended Doane College and received my bachelor’s in elementary education and attended Doane for my master’s in educational leadership.

What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
Lincoln to me is a big city with a small-town feel.

What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
I don't have a favorite book. Through teaching and becoming a parent, I have found that I love many books.

Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
One of the most impactful educators in my life was Dick “Doc” Dudley from Doane College. Doc was able to see something in me that I hadn't seen and is the reason I am an educator today. I will forever be grateful for his kindness and wisdom. He believed in me. Therefore, I believed in myself.
