Staff Spotlight: Hang Bui - registrar in LPS Federal Programs

Every week, we’ll shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! Get to know the wonderful people making a positive impact across various areas within LPS. This week, meet Hang Bui, registrar in LPS Federal Programs.

“Hang is responsible for the enrollment of all English-learning students at the school district. She welcomes all students from all over the world who are enrolling in LPS. She works very closely with 29 bilingual liaisons to ensure that non-English-speaking families get Lincequitable access to education.”- Jessica Miller, Spanish bilingual liaison.

How long have you worked for LPS?
Twenty-six years.

What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I wanted to have a positive, inspiring impact on children's lives, especially refugees and immigrants.

What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
I love meeting all the families and children from different countries and learning about their culture.

Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I'm from Vietnam, and I attended a  Lincoln private school from sixth to eighth grade and graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School.

What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I attended and graduated from Lincoln School of Commerce in business programs and continued my education at Doane University in psychology.

What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
I like the diversity, and it is a good city to raise children with many friendly and kind people.

What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
My favorite book is “All Around Me.” It influenced me in many ways discovering a brand new country, city and people that I had to adapt to.

Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
I have many teachers who impacted my life, but the person who impacted my life the most is Mrs. Susan Johnson, my first ELL teacher at Lincoln Northeast High. I was struggling with my English, and it was holding me back in many classes that I thought I wouldn't be able to keep up with all my regular classes to graduate on time. I remember she told me, "You can make it happen," and I did.
