Staff Spotlight: Stacy Hyde - technology services manager

Every week, we’ll shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! Get to know the wonderful people making a positive impact across various areas within LPS. This week, meet Stacy Hyde, technology services manager in computing services.

“Stacy plays an important role in the management and support of our district's Help Desk Support Team. The Help Desk Support Team provides technology support to all staff and students throughout the district. Without her strong work ethic and guidance, the Help Desk Support Team would not function at the level we do now.” - Ashley McBride, Help Desk support specialist.

In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
As the technology services manager for the Help Desk, I am responsible for the personnel and operational management of the district’s technology Help Desk in the computing services department. I provide management and supervision of our five Help Desk support specialists including training, scheduling, quality control, regular performance reviews and prioritization of tasks.

How long have you worked for LPS?
I have worked at LPS for 10 years, all of which have been in our Help Desk in the computing services department. I have been the manager of the Help Desk for a little over two years.

What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I previously worked as a computer technician at a small school district in Tucson, Arizona, and I really enjoyed working in the school system. When my family and I moved to Nebraska, school districts were the main places I searched for jobs.

What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
The people have been the best part of working at LPS. I enjoy supporting the staff and our Help Desk technicians. It is always a good feeling to help someone with a problem and our staff is always so appreciative. The most rewarding part is seeing just how many people we help! During the first week of school we take over 700 phone calls at the Help Desk!

Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I did not attend LPS. I grew up in Monrovia, California. Monrovia is a city in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California.

What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I have an associate’s degree in art from Citrus Community College. I never expected I would be working in the field of technology. I fell into this field while working at a cancer hospital in California. I started out as a data center technician, and things took off from there. Later in Arizona, I became a computer technician at a small school district. I taught children ages K-8 computer lessons and coordinated state testing in the computer lab.

What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
What I enjoy most about the Lincoln community is the warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel at home. Lincoln consistently ranks as one of the safest cities in the United States. The low crime rate and family-friendly amenities make it an ideal place to raise children and are the main reasons my husband and I chose to move here. Lincoln's blend of small-town charm and big-city amenities creates a truly enjoyable living experience.

What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
“Winnie-the-Pooh” by A.A. Milne - I collect all things Winnie-the-Pooh related.

Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
While I can't pinpoint a specific teacher from school who had a profound impact on my life, I'd like to give a shoutout to all the teachers who dedicate their time and effort to educating and inspiring their students. Education is a challenging yet incredibly important profession, and I have great respect for those who work tirelessly to make a difference in their students' lives.

Additionally, I would like to acknowledge my first LPS mentor, Angie Jaeger. She taught me the value of hard work, perseverance and the importance of always striving to improve. Her guidance and support helped shape my professional path and are a big reason why I was able to move into the management position I am in now. Angie instilled in me a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. I am grateful we are colleagues.
