Staff Spotlight: Bridget Brice - facilities technician

Every week, we’ll shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! Get to know the wonderful people making a positive impact across various areas within LPS. This week, meet Bridget Brice, facilities technician in LPS Operations.

“Bridget is awesome and creative. She is willing to go above and beyond to help with anything. She recently became certified to fly drones for the district. We call her Captain Bridget!” -Michelle Wood, secretary in LPS Operations.

In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
My job title for LPS is Facilities Specialist, and I am located in the Operations building. My duties include computer-aided drafting (CAD), maintaining the district facilities databases (room usage, square footage, etc), and designing and managing in-house projects. In addition, I recently became a certified remote pilot and fly a drone for LPS Operations projects throughout the district.

How long have you worked for LPS?
In November, I will have worked at LPS for three years.

What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I value our future generations but never felt like I had it in me to be a teacher. By working in operations at LPS, I can support students and staff and make a difference from behind the scenes.

What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
I love being able to help people solve problems in a way that I can professionally express creativity. I enjoy watching projects be born and come to fruition. The most rewarding aspect of my job is when the end user is excited and satisfied with the renovations and changes we have made to their building, office or classroom.

Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
While growing up, I attended Belmont Elementary School, Fredstrom Elementary School, Goodrich Middle School and North Star High School. For my last few years of high school, I also attended the Arts and Humanities Focus Program. I am very thankful that LPS is embracing and incorporating more focus programs into our curriculum.

What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I studied business at Southeast Community College. I also have my associate degree in Design & Drafting Technology.

What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
The sense of community in Lincoln is strong. I enjoy the numerous family-friendly public events, such as Stransky Park concerts and the Hub & Soul music series, as well as the farmers markets and the local businesses that enrich our community. There are a lot of friendly people in Lincoln.

What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
As a child, I loved Dr. Seuss's book "Oh the Places You'll Go". It made me feel like I was meant for bigger, better things and to keep striving toward my passions because I am the one who gets to decide the direction I want my life to take.

Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
Shout out to John Clark, a former teacher in the Arts and  Humanities focus program. John was a great teacher who was easy to relate to, funny and always had our best interests at heart.
