Staff Spotlight: Sandi Beyke - computer technician at LSE
August 2, 2024
Every week, we’ll shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! Get to know the wonderful people making a positive impact across various areas within LPS. This week, meet Sandi Beyke, computer technician at Lincoln Southeast High School.
"Sandi exemplifies the mission of LSE – Learning, Leadership, and Service. She is a lifelong LEARNER, committed to solving the myriad of challenges that arise in the world of a high school computer tech. Sandi LEADS by demonstrating diligence and positivity every day, and she is dedicated to SERVING the LSE community by masterfully executing the essential technical behind the scenes operations of a high school that only a handful of staff in LPS truly understand the intricacies of. But perhaps as important as her impeccable work, Sandi is one of the most enjoyable and fun people I’ve had the privilege to work with in my 20 years in LPS." -Tanner Penrod, Lincoln Southeast High School principal.
How long have you worked for LPS?
I will be starting my 20th year at LPS. I have worked at Humann Elementary as a para, Lux Middle School as a library secretary and then registrar, and I am currently at Southeast High School as a computer technician.
What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I have always enjoyed working with kids so initially I became a para to work with young special education students, and it helped that the hours fit my own kids' schedules. As they got older and graduated, I was able to move into my field as an office professional yet still continue to interact with students.
What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
I love all of the people I have met and the friendships I have made. I have met so many interesting people and have learned so much from the staff, students and parents I am in contact with.
Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I grew up and attended school in Hastings. My kids graduated from LPS and now several of my grandkids are attending LPS schools.
What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I attended Kearney State College before starting my career as an office professional.
What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
I love that Lincoln has all the benefits of a big city but still has a smaller town vibe.
What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
The Harry Potter series has definitely impacted my life. I enjoyed the series and I loved reading and discussing the books with my kids. It helped them discover their own personal love of reading. Now my grandkids are reading the series, and I can enjoy it all over again with them!
Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
Mrs. Betty Hunt was my high school business teacher, and she always believed in me, even when I wasn't so sure of myself. She helped me overcome my fear of trying things, regardless of the outcome, and I am a better person because of her.
