In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
I am the assistant principal at Meadow Lane Elementary. I have the best role that allows me to assist students, teachers and families each day.
How long have you worked for LPS?
I will begin my 15th year with LPS during the 2025-26 school year. I started at Meadow Lane as a fifth grade teacher for a year. I then taught fourth grade special education at Arnold Elementary for six years. After, I began my admin journey as the special education coordinator at Meadow Lane for six years and am going into my second year as assistant principal at Meadow Lane.
What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I come from a family of several teachers, most of note being my mom. I grew up spending all sorts of time in her classroom and helping in any way I could. I knew that there was not another job that I wanted to do! As I was looking to start my teaching career, LPS as a district stood out to me because of the wealth of opportunities that the district provides.
What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
There are so many things to love! My favorite part of working with the staff at Meadow Lane is that everyone is all in for kids. I know that I can go to any teacher or staff member at any point and they will jump right in if it is what is needed to help kids be successful.
Without a doubt, the most rewarding part of my job is supporting students (and supporting staff as they support students) and watching the students grow. It is so fun to look back on where a kid started and where they are now and celebrate with all the people who worked so hard to help them get there!
Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I grew up in West Point, Neb. I attended Guardian Angels Elementary and West Point Central Catholic High School.
What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for undergrad and majored in elementary and special education. I attended Doane University for my master’s degree in educational leadership..
What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
There is always a connection! Almost any time I talk to someone out in the community, we find some connection based on places or people we know. I love that it is really like a small town in a big city.
What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
Harry Potter was one of the first full series I read growing up. It really impacted my love of reading and started me down a great path to continue reading for fun. To this day, one of my favorite hobbies is reading, and I am actually currently re-reading the Harry Potter series!
Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
Mr. Latka was my junior high English teacher. He truly saw students for their varying abilities and pushed me like I had not been pushed in school before. He really brought up my confidence in myself as a learner.
