She is proactive in building positive relationships with students and finds ways to challenge and adjust the curriculum based on student needs. She also supports her students' strengths and finds ways for them to appropriately utilize their strengths in the classroom. Ms. White is a fabulous educator whose story needs to be shared!” - Kim Teegerstrom, parent
How long have you worked for LPS?
This is my third year teaching in LPS.
What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I came to Lincoln for my undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. I did all of my practicum experiences at LPS schools and I knew that the resources that LPS has to offer would serve me well in my career.
What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
My favorite part of working in LPS is collaborating with the other teachers at my school to best serve my students. I am growing as a teacher every day, and the most rewarding part of my job is seeing my students grow as hardworking, honest and kind people. Seeing my students go about their days shining their bright lights into the Calvert community is incredibly rewarding. I treasure being their teacher and seeing their joy for learning.
Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I grew up in Kearney, Neb. I was a student in the Kearney Public Schools (KPS) system.
What path did you take after completing your formal education?
After graduating from Kearney High School in 2019, the opportunity to be a part of the Teachers Scholars Academy brought me to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
I love how cohesive Lincoln feels. The character of the city is so charming, and I enjoy exploring new local restaurants and shops in Lincoln. My favorite way to spend a weekend is by picking up an iced coffee with a friend from a local shop and wandering around the various bookstores, antique shops or garden centers that Lincoln has.
What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
I loved reading Beverly Cleary growing up. My parents read every single Ramona book to me as a child and that ignited a love of reading for me. I still love hearing a story in the form of audiobooks!
Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
I had a lot of teachers who positively impacted me throughout my life. In elementary school, my third grade teacher, Mrs. Gloystein at Meadowlark Elementary in Kearney, made learning feel magical. During my time at UNL, my teacher, Tricia Gray, helped facilitate a lot of professional growth for my peers and me.
