Every week, we shine a spotlight on one Lincoln Public Schools staff member! This week, meet Scott Juranek, behavior interventionist at Irving Middle School.
“Scott is dynamic in his role as our behavior technician at Irving. He masterfully builds strong working relationships with students, and is tremendously encouraging, supportive and consistent. He maintains a positive nature and promotes a sense of calm as he problem solves and helps students practice healthy coping strategies in our student support center.” - Rachael Kluck Spann, Irving Middle School principal.
In a few sentences, briefly describe your role at LPS.
I work in the student support center and help students in many ways, hoping they feel successful in their day at school.
How long have you worked for LPS?
I have worked for LPS since January of 2023.
What inspired you to become part of the education field at LPS?
I was exploring different options from what I was doing prior to LPS and found this opportunity and decided to explore this option.
What has been your favorite part of working here? What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding?
My favorite part of working in the support center is learning something new everyday from the students we serve. I find it very rewarding when students allow me to help them problem solve any issues that they may be experiencing, and together we achieve success.
In one word, what makes you proud to work for LPS?
Community.
Did you attend LPS as a student? If so, which school(s)? If not, where are you from?
I attended Lincoln East High School for my junior and senior years.
What path did you take after completing your formal education?
I have over 30 years experience/training working with adults in a mental health setting, inpatient and outpatient. I have always enjoyed helping people.
What do you enjoy most about the Lincoln community?
Lincoln has always felt like home to me. It is a safe, welcoming community.
What is your favorite childhood book or a book that has influenced your life positively?
I don't remember one specific book. I always enjoyed books that were about kindness to others and kindness towards animals.
Share a shout out to a former teacher who impacted your life.
Miss Keep, from Lincoln East High. I always felt accepted in her classes, and she taught me some awesome cooking skills!
