A greeting from the new LPS interim superintendent

January 15, 2025

Hello everyone, I’m John Skretta.

I was excited to return to Lincoln Public Schools as the Associate Superintendent for Civic Engagement this past July, and now the Lincoln Board of Education has enlisted me to serve in the role of interim superintendent for the next 18 months.

I am humbled by this opportunity to serve and support the students, staff, families and wonderful community of Lincoln. I look forward to the many opportunities to communicate, connect and build great relationships with you in the months ahead. Together, we will continue our mission of preparing ALL students for successful careers, lifelong learning and civic engagement.

In times of transition, we often ask ourselves “what’s next”?

With wisdom and foresight on contemplating goals ahead, our Board of Education enshrined a new five year strategic plan in 2024, charting the course for us through 2029. Thus, although we are in a period of leadership transition, it is evident to me that the roadmap to excellence has already been drawn for us. We simply need to move forward – together.

The key areas of the strategic plan will continue to guide our work. Through our collaborative work on student and staff well-being and outcomes, we will strive to attain ever higher levels of student achievement while reducing achievement gaps within our student population.

We will continue to utilize our district systems and operations that direct resources based on student needs.

With increased family and community engagement, we welcome families and community members as partners in supporting the success of all students. There is incredible strength in our one city – one school district. And through our myriad community connections and partnerships with our many Lincoln business and nonprofit friends our students and families benefit.

While interacting with families and community members over the years, one of the most persistent questions I hear is “how can I help”?

I invite you to get involved. Lincoln Public Schools is always seeking volunteers and partners in supporting our staff and students. There are abundant opportunities for you to make a positive impact in our schools and our community. Whether it’s through TeamMates, our Community Learning Centers, volunteering in our classrooms, sharing your opportunities for career exploration, being active in PTO/PTA/Booster Clubs and parent organizations, or giving through the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools - YOU have the power to make a difference in the lives of our students. We welcome you here at Lincoln Public Schools.

I also invite you to follow along on our website and many social media platforms as we share stories of student and staff success.

Together in collaboration, we will fulfill our mission of ALL means ALL at Lincoln Public Schools - ensuring the very best learning outcomes and life preparedness for every single student.

Thank you for allowing me this introduction, and I’m so excited to work with you to aid Lincoln Public Schools – as we move forward – stronger together.
