Brad Jacobsen named Associate Superintendent for Civic Engagement
February 7, 2025
Lincoln Public Schools Interim Superintendent John Skretta announced on Friday that Brad Jacobsen from Ashland-Greenwood will be the next Associate Superintendent for Civic Engagement starting on July 1, 2025. Jacobsen will replace Skretta who was named interim superintendent by the Lincoln Board of Education in January.
“Brad is an outstanding educational leader who brings great experience and an impressive background in educational advocacy to support the Lincoln Public Schools at a critical juncture,” said Skretta. “I have witnessed Brad‘s leadership in a wide variety of settings from testifying in the Unicameral in front of various committees to advocating for public education in Washington D.C., and I have always been impressed with his candor, caring manner and commitment to supporting students, families and teachers.”
Jacobsen has served 16 years as the high school principal at Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools. In addition to his principal duties, he is regularly involved with the civic engagement for the district including building relationships with local and state elected officials, and collaborating with them and other state groups on legislation that would impact public schools across the state.
Prior to the principal role, Jacobsen taught and coached at Ashland-Greenwood from 1996-2009, and two years at St. Edward Public Schools before that. He earned his bachelor degree from Midland University, masters degree in Educational Leadership from Doane University, and his Superintendent certification from Wayne State College.
Jacobsen was a part of the Nebraska Council for School Administrators executive board from 2019-2023, and participated in several Nebraska School administrator legislative advocacy groups. He received the Nebraska Council for School Administrators Distinguished Service Award in 2023, and 2018 State Principal of the Year award by the Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals.
Skretta added, “Brad comes to us as a long time high school principal who brings experiential knowledge and expertise in civic engagement with community partners to support public schools. He will continue to foster strong positive relationships with local and state government, businesses, and nonprofit partners, as well as our colleagues in public education across the state. I am thrilled to have Brad join our dedicated LPS team.”
As part of a transition plan, Skretta will be working with Jacobsen during the current legislative session to find opportunities to shadow the LPS executive team.
