Nebraska Career Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award

Congratulations to Charmain Satree, Lincoln North Star High School SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor for winner this award!  When Lincoln North Star High School opened in 2003, Charm provided the leadership to charter a new SkillsUSA chapter.  She wanted to create an opportunity for students who didn’t seem to find the passion in other areas of school activities.

From a humble start of five members, the North Star SkillsUSA Chapter over the past nine years has had 30 state medalists; 11 members qualify for national competition; three members serve as state officers; one national medal winner and a national officer candidate.  In recognition of her accomplishments, Charm was recognized as the SkillsUSA State Advisor of the year in 2009 and nominated for the national advisor of the year.

Charm takes pride in the accomplishments of her diverse student population.  She is especially proud of the SkillsUSA members involvement in community service activities including Matt Talbot Kitchen, Santa Cop Project, Center for the People in Need, Salvation Army, and the Child Advocacy Center.  Charm shares, “It’s been gratifying to see members believe in themselves as I push them to do things they think they can’t do and end up being successful.

Lincoln Public Schools / HBAL Job Shadow

May 16th – 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Lincoln Public Schools - Job Shadow Follow-up Report:

At the second house visited yesterday after hearing who the group to be touring would be, one of guys hanging drywall shared how he appreciated the efforts of HBAL. He remembered his construction classes at LPS and the influence they have had on his career. It has been reported for years that many of the benefits of the project go unreported, but are nonetheless priceless.

Below are comments from the LPS Instructors who sent students:

I wanted you to know my guys came back to school with so much to tell me. They enjoyed going to Millard Lumber and seeing the fabrication of homes & touring the homes being built in Lincoln. This truly gave them something to think about as a career. Again, thank you for your time. Charmain Satree & the North Star's Construction Trades Students.

The students were very impressed with the houses. These job shadow experiences have provided great opportunities for students to learn about construction careers outside of the classroom setting. We really appreciate the time and effort that HBAL members contribute to show high school students the opportunities available to them in future construction careers. Thanks again for another excellent job shadow experience! Bob Freese & the Northeast Construction Students.

Thank you to the following individuals and companies for making the spring 2012 Lincoln Public Schools Job Shadow Project another success:

· Lea Barker, New Traditions Custom Homes – HBAL Host/Driver

· Jerry Boyce, Boyce Construction, Inc. – HBAL Host/Driver
